Welcome to London and the South East

It's easy to think of London and the South East as busy and overcrowded, so it might come as a surprise to discover that over a third of the region is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Away from the packed roads and busy towns, you'll find rolling hills, quiet beaches and lazy riversides that invite every dog and their owner to get out and live life to the full.

This isn't rugged, hiking country. The South East is a gentle landscape of coasts and ploughed fields, market gardens and even vineyards - but not everywhere has been tamed. Gaze out from the top of Leith Hill and you'll see a patchwork of copses and hedges, forestry land and heath. Along the south coast the downs undulate dizzily above the white cliffs. And deep in the New Forest you could be walking back through time.

And then, of course, there's the capital. Not far from the packed pavements, never-ending traffic and the fast pace of life lies another London. In fact, seen from the air, it's a remarkably green city in which the number of dogs is growing. Wander through the great open spaces of Richmond Park, climb Primrose Hill on a Sunday morning, get lost on Hampstead Heath and you'll be amongst friends.

So whilst the far corners of the country may seem like more obvious places to get away from it all, don't overlook the South East. There's an enormous amount to enjoy - for both of you.
